Holy Orders and Vocations

Holy Orders is the Sacrament through which a man becomes a Priest in the Catholic Church.

All God’s people are called to holiness, and that holiness is available to all in and through their particular vocations. At its heart, a vocation is a call from God to love and serve Him and His people.

Examples of religious vocations include becoming a permanent deacon, becoming a brother in a religious order, or becoming a nun or a sister. Each of these requires a period of discernment.  If you feel you may have a calling, then please feel free to contact the parish priest to discuss this further and obtain some guidance on what to do next? Remember all our priests, deacons, nuns, and other religious have been through this themselves, and can help you.

Prayer for Priestly Vocations

Almighty God, we pray, give us holy priests to strengthen us in our Christian calling, that we may be more closely conformed to Christ and share more effectively in His saving work.  Through their ministry at the altar, and by their administration of the Sacraments, may our lives be sanctified and become more closely associated with the redemptive Sacrifice of Christ.  As they preach the Gospel and teach the Faith, may we be inspired to dedicate ourselves to the work of Evangelization.  As they serve our parishes may we be led into a deeper communion of Faith, Hope and Charity.  O God, bless our Diocese also with men and women who will serve the mission of the Church by taking religious vows, inspiring us with lives consecrated to You.

Divine Mercy Prayer for Vocations

Lord Jesus transform the hearts and lives of those you are calling to serve as priests, brothers and sisters in your Church. Make them living reflections of Your Heart and channels of Your Mercy to others. Open their eyes to see Your presence in souls around them; open their ears to the appeals of others; inspire them with Your message of forgiveness and comfort; strengthen them for the service of those in need, as you prepare them to reflect your Mercy. Lord Jesus, call many generous souls to Your service, and transform them into ministers of Your Mercy, for You can do all things, Amen.
