Baptism
In Baptism we are freed from original sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission:
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other Sacraments.
“Baptism is the Sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.”
Baptism is God’s most beautiful and magnificent gift. We call it a gift, grace, anointing, enlightenment, garment of immortality, bath of rebirth, seal, and most precious gift. It is called a gift because it is conferred on those who bring nothing of their own; grace since it is given even to the guilty; Baptism because sin is buried in the water; anointing for it is priestly and royal as are those who are anointed; enlightenment because it radiates light; clothing since it veils our shame; bath because it washes; and seal as it is our guard and the sign of God’s Lordship.
How do I request baptism for my child?
Baptism is a serious undertaking and therefore requires preparation of the
parents requesting this Sacrament. You are welcome to contact the parish priest to discuss Baptism further and arrange the preparation classes.
How soon should I have my child baptised?
Children should be baptised within the first weeks after birth.
You are welcome to contact the parish priest in advance of your child’s birth for a blessing on the unborn child and to pray for a safe delivery.
Can older children or adults be baptised?
Yes, but older children and adults will need individual instruction before
receiving the Sacrament. Please contact the parish priest to discuss.
Please download and complete the form below and return it to the parish priest either after Mass or post it through the presbytery door in Bourne.
