Cafod
Catholic fund for overseas development – part of Caritas internationalis
Cafod are the official aid agency for the Catholic Church in England and Wales. With your help, we reach out to people living in hard-to-reach places, in war zones and those who are discriminated against.
We believ that if one of us is hurt, hungry or abandoned, we all are hurt, hungry and abandoned. No one should be beyond the love and support they need to live a dignified life.
Elspeth Orchard is just one of the extraordinary Catholic women who helped organise the first Fast Day in 1960 that raised over £6,000. Two years later, CAFOD was born.
“We were just doing what we ought to do, remembering that we are all God’s children.”

Aid to the Church in Need
“Aid to the church in Need is a Pontifical foundation of the Catholic church, supporting the catholic faithful and other Christians where they are persecuted, oppressed or in pastoral need.”
ACN instigated the Red Wednesday and Break the Silence campaigns to highlight the growing persecution of Christians around the world.
Their pastoral work brings the Gospel message to communities around the world allowing them to grow in faith.
Missio
“We are the Pope’s Charity for World Mission”
We share the Good News of the Gospel.
Missio funds the Church of the future in mission dioceses overseas. We build Church infrastructure and support those in need, regardless of background or belief, in 157 countries.
What are Missio’s core values?
Love: proclaiming and sharing the Gospel message of God’s unconditional love for all
Generosity: responding generously to the needs of all, regardless of background or belief
Mission: offering every Christian, whether at home or abroad, the opportunity to be a missionary
Respect: spiritual and practical support for Catholic faith communities, enabling them to become self-sufficient and flourish according to their own needs and traditions
Mary’s Meals
“A simple solution to world hunger.”
“Mary’s Meals serves nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest countries. The promise of a good meal attracts these hungry children into the classroom, giving them the energy to learn and hope for a better future.
We are already feeding more than 2.4 million children every school day – and together, we can reach the next hungry child waiting for Mary’s Meals.”
Stella Maris – (Apostleship of the Sea)
“Stella Maris is the largest ship-visiting network in the world, and the official maritime charity of the Catholic Church.
Seafarers often have to work away from their families and local communities for nine to 12 months at a time. Across the world, we aim to provide a ‘friend in every port’ and stand alongside seafarers and fishers to ensure their rights are upheld. For 100 years we’ve been extending the hand of friendship and welcoming seafarers and fishers to our shores.
Our network of chaplains and volunteers makes more than 70,000 ship visits each year and supports hundreds of thousands of seafarers and fishermen in times of need.”
